Brief Answer:
Get done 2d echo to rule out early heart diseases.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
You are active smoker. So you are at risk of heart and lung diseases.
Since your PFT is normal, no need to worry for lung related diseases.
We should rule out heart diseases like early heart failure because this can cause similar kind of symptoms.
I want to know few more things first before answering all your questions.
Please let me know.
1. Your age
2. Are you male or female female
3. What is your smoking index?
4. Have you ever undergone 2d echo?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of allergic cough is more in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of allergic cough is more in your case.

Answer to your 1st question.

For relief in cough, I think you should start combination of anti histamine (levocetrizine or fexofenadine) and anti allergic (montelukast).

Answer to your 2nd question.

Avoid hot and spicy food. Avoid oily and fatty food. Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep your self hydrated. Do steam inhalation and warm water gargles 5-6 times a day.

Answer to your 3rd question.

To increase lung capacity and condition, you should do regular deep breathing exercises, yoga, pranayam etc. Consult physiotherapist for chest physiotherapy and incentive spirometry. All these will improve lung functions and condition.

Please let me know
1. Have you ever tried anti allergic treatment?
2. Which drugs you are taking at present?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
