What Does The Following Urine Analysis Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Jul 2015
Question: Hi , I had to give a urine sample for drug testing for my new job.I did this at my doctor and it has come back negative for drugs but on my Laboratory Report the following is typed
"MOLECULAR BIOLOGY"
CHLAMYDIA TRACHOMATIS PCR
SAMPLE
URINE (UNSPECIFIED):
Negative (C.trachomatis specific DNA NOT detected by PCR)
Sensitivity and specificity of nucleic acid amplification tests are still being evaluated. This result should be interpreted in association with clinical findings.
Can you please tell me what this means as the doctor was booked out and didn't have time to see me.
I am stressing out that I have Chlamydia.

Brief Answer:
Most likely no chlamydia since test is negative

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

you have very likely NO Chlamydia as this negative drug test indicates. That sentence in the "smallprint" only mentions the fact that there is no test that is a 100% secure (test sensitivity and specifity mostly in the upper 90's, percent-wise). So thats why, if you had any symptoms like discharge and/ or unprotected risky sexual contact, there would be a small chance that this result is so called "false negative" and you could still have chlamydia. But that is much more unlikely, especially depenending on wether you have symptoms or have had potentially risky sexual contact.

Hope this is helping you , if you have any clarificatons you can get back to me, if this was helpful please kindly rate my answer. Best regards
