Question: Hi Doctor,

My wife is 31 weeks pregnant. In the USG scan done on 12th Aug'16 it was seen that the AFI was 9 cm post which our gynac prescribed Gyargin sachets for 10 days.We got another scan done on 22nd Aug'16 and AFI increased to 10cm wherein our gynac still told us to continue with the gyargin sachets. We got a recent scan done on 3rd Sep'16 in which it was seen that the AFI now is 10.7 i.e. increased only by 0.7 and it was mentioned that the baby growth is delayed by 2 weeks. We are really worried. Please advice us doctor.I am attaching the usg scan report donr on 3rd Sep'16.

Brief Answer:
Fetal growth retarded by 2 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
I have seen the attached report. It is good that liquor is gradually increasing with the help of medicine. But it is still inadequate for a good growth of the baby. The lag of 2 weeks is due to decreased liquor. Fetal color doppler study is also needed in this case to assess any circulation compromise.
She needs to continue taking the medicine and a high protein diet in addition to it. Regular ultrasound scan every two weeks is needed to monitor proper growth of the baby. Do consult the gynecologist every week and get her examined regularly to detect any other complications early.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Sleeping late and stress cause growth retardation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
With gestational diabetes she can have milk and milk products daily, egg, pulses, etc in addition to the regular diet that she is taking. Stress and lack of proper rest is a major factor for growth retardation. She needs at least 8 hours sleep at night and hours rest in the afternoon in left lateral position.
Hope my answer is helpful.
