Question: Hi, I just received a HIV XXXXXXX Cascade Screening with a returned negative result.
Can you shed any light on what this means to me?

Hi and thanks for the query,

This a test for HIV that detects mainly viral antibodies, and not the virus itself. IT is simple and fast to do. Its being negative does not, a 100 % exclude one is free of the virus. To be sure, you will need to stay out of any risk of infection, and get it again done in three months. If it is negative at this point, then you ca be then declared free completely from HIV.

I suggest you do an HIV test, a rapid test like this in three months. To be sure of the actual state now, you will have to test for viral particles, which is more specific and expensive. You can ask for the Antigen P24 test of the PCR.
