Question: Hi, I'm early in pregnancy and my urine has shown c.kosher. It is currently being retested. Can this bacteria be treated in pregnancy? Is it likely to have caused any problems with the fetus?

Brief Answer:
Visit your GP at the earliest

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for trusting health care magic.
Yes it can be treated easily with antibiotics and for that you need to take prescription from your GP at the earliest.
It is important to keep your liquid intake high so drink as much water as possible and increase fruit juice intake, especially cranberry juice which has good ability to fight with UTI on irs own.
Also take alkalizer syrup after discussing with your GP which will help in creating hostile environment for the bacteria.
Always do protected sex even if you ard on birth control till infection is treated.
Take care

Thank you for the quick response. Just to clarify, I am pregnant so not on birth control. If this is treated early will it be unlikely to cause issues with the fetus? Thank you for your advise.

Brief Answer:
Less chances of problems if fully treated

Detailed Answer:
Yes in case it gets treated early there are less chances of affection of the fetus but still there can be a problem with proper growth in later months of pregnancy to the extent of 3-5% in patients with fully treated urinary tract infection.
So you will need to be extra cautious as far as growth scans of the baby are concerned and this get them at regular intervals.
Also pregnant patients once affected by UTI are more prone to repeated infections in future so keep your water intake in higher side always.
All the best.
