Brief Answer:
This means that the infant is affected by worm infestation

Detailed Answer:
Hi....this means that the baby is having worms in the tummy.

For a breast fed baby this is extremely unlikely.

I have a few questions for you -

1. What symptom of the baby made you or the doctor to order this test?

2. Have you observed any worms in stool of the baby?

3. How is the baby's appetite?

4. Is the lab a reliable lab....I suggest you give the same test in another lab and cross check too....I am telling this because it is an unusual report.

Please get back to me with the answers, so that I can guide you better

Thanks for your reply Doctor.

Actually, baby had following symptoms:

1. passing green, mucousy semi liquid stool
2. passing stool accompanied with loud sound and gas
3. at times crying heavily for 15-20 minutes

I have not observed any worms in the stool. Also, baby has good appetite. She is completely on breast milk. The Lab is a reliable one. Sample was collected and tested at Apollo Hospital, XXXXXXX I would like to inform you that She was also administered DPT vaccine on last Monday.

Brief Answer:
Not related to vaccine...she needs a re check of stool sample

Detailed Answer:
Hi...I have gone through your reply.

My suggestion is that she is having an evening colic.

This is called evening colic and is quite common in this age group. This happens when the baby sucks at the breast very fast and in eagerness to drink milk will gulp in air too. Unless the air comes out like burping or flatus this discomfort will be there and next time check if the baby is sucking too fast and gulping in air too. You will be more convinced. Usually I don't advice any medicines for this as they give only temporary relief.
The two best ways to relieve this distress is -
1. Do not put the baby in lying position after feeding till the baby burps out the swallowed air.
2. If still crying - put the baby in prone position and keep patting the back gently so that the baby passes off the flatus and gets relieved.

I also suggest doing a recheck of the stool sample.
