What Does My Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 9 Apr 2016
Question: Dear Doctor,

Iam 34 weeks pregnant now. My last period was on 12.06.2015. Today I had a growth scan. The results of the scan has put me in a state of panic. The fetal weight is 1955 gms which my doctor opined was below the normal level. Other values like BD, HC, AC & FL are all measuring low for 34 weeks. The report also suggests chances of IUGR. I am attaching a copy of the scan report herewith. My doctor has advised me to increase my intake of protein. I have also been given protein powder to be taken daily. Kindly advise if my baby is normal. I am worried if my baby would be born with any abnormalities. Please note that am short (below 5feet) and my husband is just 5 feet 2 inch. Will that be partly responsible for a small baby. My pressure is always around 70/110. And my sugar levels are also normal. An early response from your end would be highly appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,
xxxxxxxx

Brief Answer:
IUGR is not related to anomalies.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The less than normal BPD, HC or Ac is suggestive of an IUGR. This needs a proper protein rich diet to make up for the deceased growth of the baby. This suggests that the size of baby is smaller but there are no anomalies. The lesser height of you and your husband can be the cause of this decrease in body weight.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.

Dear doctor,

Thank you for an early response.

I had forgotten to upload my scan report in my earlier query. But I have uploaded the report now. Kindly go through it and throw some information.

Also, I had received a call from my doctor asking me to take two doses of betnesol injection for baby's lung development. I wanted to know if betnesol is safe during pregnancy. Please also let me know if the injection would, in any way , trigger early labour.

Awaiting an early response.

Thanks and Regards, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Injection will not trigger labor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
I have seen the uploaded report. The fetal growth is less but the liquor is adequate. The os is closed. The chances of an early labor are very low.
The two doses of betnesol are to help lung maturity. It does not induce an early labor in any way. Please do not worry. Do follow your gynecologist's instructions.
Hope my answer is helpful.
Do accept my answer in case there are no further queries.
Regards.
