Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

After reviewing your data I would like to say that your liver enzymes are slightly elevated and this is a common finding in patients who are under treatment with crestor 20 mg.

If you were my patient I would recommend to quit drinking and reduce the dose of Crestor to 10 mg.

Moreover I would recommend to repeat the blood test after 4-6 weeks. Meanwhile I would recommend to schedule for an abdominal ultrasound to properly evaluate liver function. Since the effect on liver enzymes is dose dependent these measures will have a positive effect.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!

Thank you. My doctor did request I get an abdominal ultra sound; I will set up tomorrow. She also took another blood test today; I did not fast but she said it was OK because she was just testing for liver function. Is there anything else I should do? Such as Liver cleansing? Or anything else?

Hi back,

For the moment you don't need to do anything else. Just stop drinking, reduce the dose of Crestor to 10 mg and do the abdominal ultrasound.

I'm waiting for the ultrasound results to make more suggestions.
Wish you health!

thank you. I am having the abdominal ultrasound this morning at 11 est. I am not sure when I will get the results, but have a follow up appointment with my doctor the morning of September 7th. One other bit of information is that I had full wellness physical in January, 2016 (8 months ago) in St. XXXXXXX Mo. and my doctor there did not alert me to anything abnormal.

Thanks.
I want to keep up this conversation so I can send you the results of the abdominal ultrasound and have you give me your opinion. By the way, others have told me that if I had liver problems, I would appear "yellowish, or jaundiced'; is this true? Because I do not. My complexion is unchanged. I will also be in St. XXXXXXX Mo. next Thursday , September 8th and will attempt to get the full blood and urine report that was done earlier in the year. The reason I have 2 this year is that my Insurance was with another company and through United Health Care from January to May. With my new company we switched to Humana, and I had another wellness physical, leading to this!

Please give me your thoughts on:
--should I go back on Crestor?
--Can I drink alcohol moderately/ socially?... not to excess! I travel a lot and entertain quite a bit.
--what the abdominal ultrasound means?

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

The findings on ultrasound examinations are typical for fatty liver disease (hepatic steatosis). Fatty liver disease is caused by alcohol use and dislipidemia.

This is why I strongly recommend to quit drinking. You may drink one glass of wine on special occasions (social meetings).

Since your doctor refuse to start crestor for the moment you may contact a second doctor for a second opinion.

Wish you health!
