Question: Hi doctor, i am 21 week 4 days pregnant today i had anomoly scan they deducted EIF, said calcium deposit in heart. 13 week scan and double marker blood test was normal. Keeping that doctor said EIF will not have any adverse effect on bsby' s heart function.

Utretine artery doppler: ip left is 0.84 and right 1. 42.
All other reports are normal.
Is there anything to worry abt EIF. Please advice.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry, however routine and timely follow-up to continue..

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Welcome back to HCM..

I've gone through your query and understand your concern..

Yes, EIF is mostly considered as a normal variant of pregnancy and to tell you specifically that you belong to those 3-5% group where it is detected..

Presence of EIF in absence of any other anomaly almost rules out any anomaly in the baby.. as you've rightly mentioned since your 13 weeks scan and double marker test was normal so your doctor rightly pointed out that EIF will not have any adverse effect on the baby..

However, you should know that nothing is obvious in medicine and even in this case also, double marker test and scans are all a part of Screening test only..

There are definitive way to detect anomaly in form of Amniocentesis and some other tests but since double marker is negative so clinically it is not indicated, also this type of diagnostic tests are performed late in pregnancy and it's absolutely the call of your Gynecologist as this tests themselves carry several risks..

So in short until the risk outweighs the benefits they don't usually pursue for the diagnostic testings..

Don't worry, as everything else's normal, this is also likely feature of normal variant only..

You can discuss with your doctor regarding need for triple marker test(but once again test results won't be so accurate as it's another screening test plus you've crossed the 20 weeks of gestation)..

So the best option is to remain in the regular follow-ups and routine Doppler screening at timely interval decided by your doctor..

Good Luck and best wishes for the pregnancy..
