Posted on Tue, 12 Jan 2016
Question: I am 53yrs. I have been diagnosed with diastolic dysfunction grade1 recently. I do suffer with hypertension. Two weeks I did a blood test which indicated liver and kidney function was good as well as cholesterol levels. However I was told heart enzymes levels were high.
CK - 208 [38-174 normal]
LDH -237 [125-225 normal]
Could you interpret and advise. Thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

After reviewing the medical data I would like to say that you have slightly elevated CK and LDH levels.

First of all the result are slightly elevated and you shouldn't worry about that.

Secondly the high levels aren't necessary related to cardiac problems, because these two enzymes aren't cardiac specific.
Thirdly these findings most probably are related to viral infection and myositis. Viral infection (even common flue) can cause such a findings.

If you were my patients in order to relieve your concerns I would recommend to do CK-MB fraction of CK which is cardiac specific.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
