What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?
Question: I have RA, I was put on Gabapentin for pain. 3 weeks in the treatment I developed Pitting edema in ankles and shins bilaterally. I called him he said to wean off it. I went in his office the following week, he did CBC, CMP,CRPand BNP(check for CHF). It all came back normal. The only thing that was out of whack was CMP the AST and ALT were both HIGH, and CRP 1.31/ dL. I work as a remote medic , I asked if I could work? Rheumy said Yep I don't see why you couldn't I said ok. He gave me Lyrica to start when swelling goes down. It's been over a month and I'm at work on a month and half assignment. I'm working with a FNP, he noticed my ankles and said why don't we try Lasix 20 mg(started Monday) all I do is pee a lot, but I don't feel swelling going down nor do I see it reducing. The whole are is tender and painful if I bump my legs getting in and out of bed. Please, any and all advice is greatly appreciated. BTW CHF was rruled out with labs and x-ray.
Brief Answer:
Get a USG of both legs done.
Detailed Answer:
Dear ,
Thank you for posting your query on HCM.
Well looking into your problem I will like to tell you that it will be difficult to comment on present situation because it is slightly unlikely to have such symptoms in RA. One thing is to get underlying venous insufficiency excluded , by getting USG along with Doppler of legs . Other thing is to look for panniculitis . Also get serum albumin and 24 hour urine protein done to see if there is any protein loss as it can also present like this .
Discuss this with your treating doctor and get these tests done . Get back to us with results so that we can decide further.
Take care.
