Posted on Tue, 11 Oct 2016
Question: Hello,
I have a feet pain for an year. Initially doctors diagnosed that it was planter fasciitis. However, i recently did a MRI scan and the report came that i might be having astio orthiritis. I have two questions.
1. I am only 39. How much accurate the MRI reports are? Is there any other chance that i might not be having orthiritis?
2. Will i get the join issues all over my body if it is orthritis soon in my life?

Brief Answer:
No there is no risk of other joint involvement

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and MRI report. MRI is never 100 percent right and I have doubt about your reports as calcaneocuboid arthritis is not a known problem and If you do not have any trauma then it is very rare. There is no chance that you will arthritis of the other joints. I have following suggestions for you.
1.I think your problem can be due to bad shape of feet. So I would suggest you to visit a foot and ankle surgeon and check if your arches of foot are normal.
2.more often then not changing foot wear and putting arch support inside solve the issue.
3.you can also use injection in the calcaneocuboid joint. This will give you good pain relief.
4.last option is surgery where we can fuse this joint and it will gives good pain relief.
I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
Thanks

Thanks. I have already checked with the foot doctor and wearing orthotics for an year now.

1. What kind of surgery doctors can do as i get different opinions from different doctors? They can't do the correct surgery if the doctors are not clear about the issue....isn't it? Initially i was informed that it was planter fascitis and then i was informed it was a problem with tendon and then astio orthitis. Three different specialist suggested different types of surgery to me.

2. I used to run a lot. Can i run normally if i every do a surgery?

Brief Answer:
If your joint is fuse then running can be problem

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
If your joint is fused then running is difficult. So surgery is chosen only if you have unbearable pain and there is no other option. At present I think you should try steroid injection in the heel. Some time it offer good pain relief. In case you continue to have severe pain then only you should consider surgical options.
thanks
