What Does My MRI Scan Report Indicate?

Posted on Fri, 2 Jan 2015
Question: Hello doctor (s),

I am 34y old female, unmarried. Wt: 46Kg, Ht: 5.6". I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian and I do not exercise or do any heavy physical work. I have been experiencing irregular body pain, muscle aches, mood swings and fatigue past several months. Diet is okay, don't feel loss of appetite and I consume plenty of fluids. Experiencing shortness of breath and persistent cough, inflammation in tonsils. Can't breathe when I bend my knees in fetal position. Have to take deep breaths through the mouth every few hours.

There is extreme joint pain in the knees, makes it difficult to stand or sit quickly. I did an X-ray for my right knee joint which came back completely normal but the pain still persists, I am out of breath even after climbing one flight of stairs and my legs feel limp.

There is random stomache-ache on the left side which appears and then disappears on it's own. But when it appears, it hurts causing frequent urination. A sonography done 2 months ago of the pelvis and abdomen indicated 5 fibroids.

I am experiencing a sharp shooting pain radiating in the Rhomboid Major region on my upper back right side that spreads to my chest and a sharp acute pain in my lower back that happens randomly but feels like an electric shock immobilizing me for a couple of seconds when it happens. A back MRI was done recently on suggestion by a neurologist to get to the root of my back pain and it said "Cervical lordosis is attenuated" and "Mild to moderate right paracentral disc protrusion and peridiscal osteophytes are seen at C5-6 level indenting on the anterior subarachnoid space and right C6 nerve root". He suggested some mild exercises and use of ergonomic chairs saying there was nothing much to worry. My back pain still hasn't subsided.

I had done a routine blood test just 5 months ago in July and all the values were normal except MPV (it was 7.5 at the time but it's normal now). I also did a B12 test back in July and the value was normal - 41.10.

My Hemogram done this week said "Predominantly Normocytic normochromatic with macrocytes and ovalocytes. Anisocytosis."

Are the low values from the recent blood report causing me bodyaches? Are there any additional tests that need to be in conjunction?

I have attached my reports for review. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Rule out chest and heart disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query and various reports I concluded that you should exclude chest related and heart related cause first as you are having breathlessness, easy fatigue, persistent cough etc. So I advise you to visit chest physician for it.You can also see cardiologist .In my opinion your above reports does not explain symptoms as reports are normal to a great extend.

I will suggest following tests to further investigate the cause.
1.Chest x ray and High resolution CT scan of chest
2.Heart function tests such as ECG,Echocardiography and exercise stress test, if these have any abnormality then angiography of heart.
3.ESR
4.Serum creatinine
5.Serum uric acid
6.Rheumatoid factor test
You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Thank you for the response doctor,

I did some of the tests recommended by you end of July this year, the values were:
ESR: 19
S Creat: 0.9
S. Uric Acid: 3.1
RA Factor: 0.9

My doctor said these were all normal, earlier this year a Chest X-ray was also done which too was normal. Would you still advise to get these tests done again? A
