What Does Finding Of Adrenal Adenoma Indicate?

Posted on Mon, 27 Oct 2014
Question: This is worth a try. 4/23, 6/23, 8/23, 2010. First date Rt. Carotid done, then L aneurysm clipping, then R aneurysm clipping. Subsequently, in the years to follow, I have been seen in pain clinics, still not on any pain meds. I have been in a fog for years, and then started weaning myself off of all the antidepressants. Right now I am struggling with an Endocrinologist whom doesn't seem to understand me, nor I him. This started in XXXXXXX of 2013, but the locum left and they just now as of the last week had one start and now all the testing begins again. They found an adrenal adenoma but think it isn't of any significance. That was a few years ago already. That was found as a result of being admitted to ER for prescription toxicity as my left kidding was shrinking down and shutting down. Anyway, my question to you is--what does this mean from my doctor? An email after bloodwork-"Per Dr. Madduri: Labs are suggestive of hormonally inactive or non functional adrenal masses. No need for any new medications.". I am a post menopausal 49 year old . I would appreciate some English here. After dexomethsone test. Cortisol was2.5 which they said was normal for the test. I have all the signs and symptoms of XXXXXXX however, they have ruled out Cushing's. Thhanyou, Annemarie Stevens

Brief Answer:
Bit more details of the scan report

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs. Stevens,
Good day
Noted your concern.
I presume the adrenal mass was an incidental finding during a scan.
I would like to know but about the CT scan description. What was the size of adrenal mass? Regular or irregular borders? What about contrast enhancement? What about contrast retention? YES, I know, this is tough for you. But it makes lots of sese to an endocrinologist when dealing with an adrenal mass. The best thing would be to scan and attach the scan report if you have one.

MAinly we are worried about 3 things in an adrenal mass
1) Cancer
2) Hormone over secretion or undersecretion
3) Tuberculosis/Fungal or bacterial unfection.

I realize that you had it there for few years now. What did the repeat scan show? Any increase in size of mass??

The cortisol of 2.5 ( is it in mcg/dl ??). The units are important. What symptoms and signs of addisons do you have ??

. If i translate the sentence " Labs are suggestive of hormonally inactive or non functional adrenal masses. No need for any new medications" in to layman terms, it means that your adrenas are making right amount of hormones ( not high or low) and no need to worry. BUT THE SIZE DOES MATTER. Was it more than 4 cm ??

I would appreciate a reply so that i can guide you further

Regards
Binu
