Question: Hello, I have have new born baby girl ( Birth date: 01 Sep 2014) .
We have Get the Bilirubin test done for Jaundice detection on 5th compete day ( 120 hrs post birth). Current levels for total and direct are within the limits as per report but indirect is high, kindly suggest ( Below are levels)

Total Bilirubin: 14.1
Direct Bilirubin: 0.4
Indrect Bilirubin: 13.7

Hi.... 5th day bilirubin of 14.1 need not be worried about. At the best you can show the baby in sun for few minutes per day after the bath. But there is a mild chance that it can go up and settle.

Kindly get back with answers to following questions -
1. What are the blood groups of baby and mother?
2. How is the baby's activity ?
3. How is the baby's feeding and urine output?

Please find the below Answers
1. Both Mother & Child are O+
2. Baby activity is fine interms of hands & leg movement , cry for feed every 2 hrs else calm.
3. Baby is on breast feed on every 2 hrs, Urine output in 5-6 time in day and 1-2 times in night.

Hi...the baby will definitely get better in 3-6 days time. Only one suggestion.... Check the bilirubin in another 3 days to be doubly sure. Otherwise everything is going to be fine.
Feed the baby with only mother feeds till 6 months of age.
