What is very important to distinguish is what the actual cause of the bruise is at this time. You had some type of trauma it is probably not a big issue. However, if this swelling appeared without any causative factor it is necessary that you have this evaluated as soon as possible.

If you have any history of prior deep vein thrombosis this is extremely concerning.

Other symptoms to worry about include swelling of the leg, redness and increasing temperature.
