What Do These Following HIV Test Reports Indicate?

Posted on Thu, 2 Feb 2017
Question: Hello Doctor,

This is XXXX from XXXXXXX and sorry for sending such a long email

RISK
============

The incident happened on '26th Sep 2016' when I was traveling in a 'city bus'. I was 'stabbed' by a sharp object not sure what it was and wound was on my right thigh

I really don't know whether the object had 'blood' in it and the person was 'HIV infected'

But, I believe it was not a 'syringe/needle or blade'. Because, the object left a little scar (2mm or 3mm in length) and the wound was not deep enough.

When I undressed I saw a 'tiny dot' of blood but it did not ooze out

TEST RESULTS
================

28 day ELISA 0.16 out of 1.0
92 day HIV-I & II report reads 'BLOOD IMMUNOLOGY - NEGATIVE FOR HIV ANTIBODY'.

I asked for ELISA but after seeing the report I could not understand what test they had done. It states 'antibody' hence I assumed ELISA (IInd generation I guess as the charge was less).
For now I assume (literally) the report is correct. 'Lab' was located in the 'most reputed area' of our 'metro' and they conduct other 'HIV tests' (eg WesternBlot, DUO etc) as well

I did not take any tablet for the past 2 months

Problems persists till date
=============================

1)     5 Little bumps on back of tongue     - There are either small or too small
2)     Dry Lips                    - Not very bad though. After applying 'coconut oil' it subsided a lot
3)     'Extra softness' on both upper and lower lips (center portion). 'Extra softness' can be felt only by touching it
4) XXXXXXX spots                    - From 9th (or) 10th week onwards it subsided.
                               Now, it appears very randomly in 2 or 3 places as individual XXXXXXX spots (not as group)
5)     At times, I get 'click sound' from 'knees', 'ankle' and 'neck'     - Does it mean healing or getting worse?

Oral problems (which I had on 4th week)
=========================================

'White patch' (back of tongue) and 'mild itching' on tongue      - Doctor provided tablets for 4 days and they disappeared.

Doctor said 'itching tongue' indeed means 'fungus infection'

I met 'dermatologist' during 11th week and explained her all the symptoms

She did not diagnose anything and prescribed a 'lotion' for 'rose spots' and tablet for 'joint pains'. But, I did not buy anything as 'no diagnosis' happened

Symptoms occurred between 11th and 12th week
===============================================

1)     Joint ache (knee, elbow and ankle)     - Lasted for 1 week. The only other reason for this could be excessive 'uric acid' (not sure though).

     Roughly 4 months before I had pain in 'wrist' (right hand) and 'nerves' (both hands) and it produced 'blood clots' in my right arm.
     My GP did not diagnose the problem, but he felt it could be because of 'URIC ACID'. I took the tablets for 4 days and pain subsided a lot but did not go completely

     I frequently eat eggs and consume 'Fish (or) Chicken' weekly once

2)     One single white pimple on 'lower lip' - Applied 'coconut oil' a bit for 3-4 days and it was resolved

     I hope it was not 'mouth ulcer' because I was able to 'chew and eat' without any issues
     I hope it was not 'herpes' or 'canker sores' as it was the 'only pimple' and 'was not filled up fluid'

I am aware that I am 'not completely' out of risk despite 13th week -ve and need to continue testing till 6 months

I am not sure whether my immune system is weak because I often catch cold. But, at the same time I don't drink and smoke & used to drink hot water at home (for more than 2 decades)

I am REALLY SCARED about the 'problems that perists' and when doctor informed me about 'fungus infection'

Whom should I meet now FIRST, assuming 92nd day report is correct? What tests are suggested for the persisting symptoms ?

     (1) Dermatologist (2) Ortho (3) Dentist (or) ENT (4) Gastroenterologist (5) HIV Specialist

If you are aware of anybody in 'Chennai' please email his / her contact details to YYYY@YYYY

Thanks

Brief Answer:
You are absolutely free from HIV.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome to HCM. I had gone through your query and understand the concerns you are worried for and as your physician try to solve it at the earliest.

The symptoms you had mentioned are typically seen in case of typhoid and your doctor had treated you for the same. All these symptoms are non specific as far as HIV is concerned so no need to get anxious or worried for it.

Also you had negative test result for HIV after 92 days which is considered to be 100% conclusive as the window period for HIV varies from 15 days to 3 months. Be relaxed, forget about the episode and move on. For your symptoms I advice you to consult orthopedic. For any further query feel free to ask me any time.

Thank You
