Question: Hi i had the following tests done after an unprotected sex:
- post 2 days eclia hiv1,2,p24 result 0.21 non reactive
- post 38 days eclia hiv1,2,p24 result 0.61 non reactive. On the same day i had an elisa duo test antibody and p24 and it came out negative.
- post 50 days eclia hiv 1,2, p24 result 0.81 non reactive.
- post 57 days M.E.I.A test result negative

I am worrried about the increase in index value. Is it conclusive? Or should i retest again for P24?

Brief Answer:
It is definitely conclusive and you are free from HIV.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome to HCM.

You had done ELISA for HIV 1 and 2 along with p24 after 2, 38, 50 and 57 days post exposure and all were negative than you need not to worry at all as you are free from HIV and you can consider these results as conclusive. No further test is required.

As far as index value of the rest is concerned it has not much significance because any value less than one is considered as negative so don't think about the rise in index value. Be relaxed and move ahead.

As your friend I will also advice you to avoid such high risk behaviour to prevent the risk of HIV and other STDs in future also.

Thank You

The last test done with p24 was eclia with hiv1,2 and p24 and that was after 50 days. The one i did on the 57th day is MEIA, and i am not sure if that covers p24. I have actually been very stressed and anxious with all these. As from which test and by when can we say that it is conclusive?
Two things have been worrying me, 1) its the increase in index value and 2) i have no diarhea but floating stools and past 2 days my left tonsils is a little bigger (to note that i usually have problem with this left tonsil and is usually gets infected)

Brief Answer:
P24 antigen test is conclusive after one month post exposure.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

The antigen test for HIV like p24 is conclusive after one month post exposure and your result was negative after 50 days so you need not to worry.

As I had told earlier increase in index value of the test has no significance because any value below one is considered as negative. It is just due to the technique or instrument which was used so don't get bothered about it.

The symptoms like floating stools or enlarged left tonsil are due to some other infection not related to HIV for which you can consult your local physician and take treatment as per the advice. Be relaxed and don't be so anxious.
