Question: Am a 46 yr old male. Had a PFT done today. 1st ?---why did I pass out while performing the FVC with every attempt. It was not a very pleasant experience. Here are my results. Please explain what they mean. Before I go....I have never smoked, or did drugs.....In 98 I was told I had sarcoids of the lymph nodes. I do get shortness of breath quite easily. had heart test done, appears to be Borderline Normal, lol. Can you help me understand these results. Thanks in advance. ACTUAL PRED. %PRED. Brief Answer: Early small airway obstruction Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for send the report of your PFT for interpretation. Your post-bronchodialator FEV1/FVC ratio is 92% of the predicted which indicates no XXXXXXX obstruction. But FEF 25-75 %(L/sec) is 47% of predicted and also the post-bronchodialator FEF 25-75 %(L/sec) is 57% of the predicted that means you have early small airway obstruction. Reversibility cannot be commented on the basis of FEF 25-75 %. Therefore my ultimate diagnosis is early small airway obstructive airway disease which may be a consequence sarcoidosis earlier. Treatment in this stage will depend upon your symptoms like cough, wheezing or dyspnea but totally on the basis of this symptom no active intervention is needed right now. As you have dyspnea you may have a trial for inhaler consisting of formeterol and budesonide (200) and look for improvement. This report is nothing serious but symptom as well as lung function may progress in near future. If you have further queries you can ask me without hesitation. Thank you.
