Posted on Tue, 22 Apr 2014
Question: I have just received the results of CBC today. Two unusual results for me: Carbon dioxide 31 and Absolute eosinophils 502. I am type 2 diabetic, age 82, a vegetarian, non-smoker, am not overweight, Other results: total cholesterol: 230 (which I know is high), LDL 139 (ditto), A1C 6.6. Other info: I have been having acid reflux for the last month and have just gotten some XXXXXXX cider vinegar which I am going to try to take to offset it Might acid reflux have anything to do with CD or AE?

Brief Answer: Low carbon dioxide and high eosinophils Detailed Answer: Hello. Thanks for posting your question. I have gone through your query carefully and I appreciate you writing to us to clear your doubts as the Carbon Dioxide levels are low, which I presume was from venous blood sample. Low carbon dioxide levels in venous blood samples could be because of two reasons, first, a brief exposure of the blood sample to air, secondly it maybe because of hyperventilation or respiratory alkalosis, this can be serious and needs urgent review by your doctor. The absolute eosinophil count is elevated, this can be due to many reasons including asthma, allergy etc, you will need further evaluation to find the exact cause. As for XXXXXXX cider vinegar having any effects, I am certain that is not the case. I urge you to visit your doctor as soon as possible. I sincerely hope this helps you. Wish you good health. Regards.
