What Do Severe Leg Pain, Numbness And Lack Of Mobility Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 26 Sep 2017
Question: i am having severe leg pain in my right leg. I have not had this before and I have not had a recent trauma - sudden onset. this started two days ago. I can not tell if this is a joint or a muscle or a nerve issue. This morning it was less painful and confined to my upper right thigh area - today later in the day my whole leg is numb-ish. I can not bear full weight easily - I can walk with a very slow troubled gait. I just took some advil which I also took last night - which helped but not a lot. I am very unfamiliar with this type of pain - I have had knee issues on this side before - this is not that.

Brief Answer:
Can be a muscle spasm or nerve issue.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the leg with numbness can be related to a muscle spasm or a nerve root compression at the level of lower spine. This can be properly diagnosed after a physical examination and investigations like MRI scan.
You can help the improvement by-
1. Avoid any strenuous exercises, lifting weights, climbing stairs, cycling, etc.
2. Take a mild pain killer like acetaminophen every 8 hourly.
3. Do a hot fomentation in the area twice daily.
4. You can apply a local analgesic gel like Volini also.

Do consult an Orthopedician for a physical examination and stronger prescription medicines in case there is swelling, persistent pain and difficulty in walking.

I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
