What Do Red Bumps In The Groin Area Indicate?

Question: This is a little long but I think the history is relevant. on 2/12/14 I had sex with an escort. She told me she was clean. We had sex with a condom for 10 minutes and I sat naked on the bed for about 10 minutes. 2 weeks later on 2/28 I started noticing red bumps on my grown area. I went to see an urgent care doctor and he thought I may have the scabies mite. He prescribed 5% Permethrin which I applied that night. A week later on 3/7 I applied treatment again along with my family and washed all the beddings/clothes and vaccumed the house thoroughly. I was advised by the doctor that I may still feel itchy afterwards because of the permethrin. Since then, I have noticed that the bumps on my groin area have gone down. I am still itchy but I only see faded red marks on my groin. I keep feeling itchy all over my body, I am hoping that is just the lotion. But now, I noticed what looked like bites on my forehead. I noticed them about 5 days ago. Today I noticed that they feel kinda like they burn a little. Can this be related to the scabies? i should also mention that I have been going through some stress, Job change, baby coming soon and starting school...all happening very soon. I am hoping it is just stress related on not scabies. Please see attached pictures.

Brief Answer: Topical mild steroid cream & check surroundings Detailed Answer: Hi there. I read your detailed description & note your photos with interest. You are absolutely right & the history is relevant. However, you seem to have received the correct ttreatment for scabies & treated the family & fomites. Hence it may be one of two things : either a hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to the mite /products or a bed bug infestation that is likely given your history. Please check your bedding & seams of beds etc for the latter & perhaps a pesticide control is in order should you find any hint of an infestation. For the affected areas & for symptomatic relief, please use a 1% hydrocortisone ointment that may be available as an OTC product, is safe as it is a mild steroid & can be applied to the parts twice daily for a week or 10 days. This should take care of your issues. Stress will definitely play a role & can be tackled with a short holiday if time permits over the weekend using the opportunity to treat one's home with the pesticide control. Good Luck & wish you Good health! Dr Praveen Rodrigues MD
