Hi Mr XXXXXXX

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.

These sugar values are too high. You need to recheck the blood sugars ( FBS and PPBS) and HbA1c ( 3 months average blood sugars) tomorrow.

If the values are still high, you should meet a diabetologist or endocrinologist and get appropriate treatment. Medications like Metformin and Glimepiride along with insulin is usually used in bringing down high blood glucose to normal.

Meanwhile decrease the intake of high calorie foods.

Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you

Hi,

Welcome back.

There can be many causes for diabetes at this age and it is difficult to point out the cause of high blood sugars.

The reason for diabetes depends on type. There are 3 types of diabetes possible at your age (20s)

1. Type 1 : Common diabetes in children and adults till the age of 30 yrs. Here pancreas is destroyed by some antibodies causing sudden increase in blood sugars

2. Type 2 : common in elderly. But can be seen in children above 10 years. Here the problem is there is a resistance to insulin action.

3. Monogenic diabetes : rare form of genetic diabetes where insulin secretion is decreased.

Tests like antibody profile for type 1 diabetes, C peptide etc can be done to differentiate this.
