Question: The doctors at the university hospital has shown me Cat-Scans ? of my husbands brain. They pointed out small black specks through out and said each was a small stroke. They also talked about the gray area being abnormal . his pysch requisted a 4 hour) testing. The answer we got back was that he should not be working or driving and many other things. The testing was given again by the university later I think (6 weeks) and they said they nothing wrong and said he could drive and everything
that was taken away from him. What do you think is going on?

Brief Answer:
Vascular dementia.Get a second opinion.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

The first part of your husband's medical evaluation ( CT scan findings, restricted activities and psychological examination ) point toward vascular dementia, or damage of brain matter and function by small, repeated strokes.

I don't know what to say about the change on diagnosis and its related restrictions after six weeks.

Probably the doctors were referred to another person's imaging studies, because imaging findings after small strokes persist after years and clinical situation doesn't change that fast.

However, in my opinion, to have a correct understanding of your husband's condition, you should get a second opinion by another Neurologist and Psychiatrist.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

This condition, what ever it my be is ruing our 41 year marriage. I have waited a long time for a change. 6 years. Now he feels there is no hope for him, after all these years of doing everything the Dr's have ask him to do. Now he is just AFRAID to change doctors for fear of the same thing and of his anger coming back. He going to see a psychologist this Thursday. We are trying desperately to find help. What can we expect? Also the current psychiatrist only gives my husband 10 minutes of his time. What can he learn from a patient in 10 minutes?
Is it $$$$$? Where do we find a good psychiatrist that truly wants to spend enough time to care for the patients. I have learned that the psychiatrist
should pay attention to moods, eye contact, how the patient walks and carries themselves. VERY DISCOURGED! I am BEGGING you to please give me some guidance.

Brief Answer:
Psychologist evaluation and therapy could help too.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Sorry to hear about all these troubles.

In this moment, since Psychiatrist doesn't pay the necessary time to your husband, I think is okay to discuss with the Psychologist about extending the time of evaluation and probably behavioral therapy about your husband's issues.

Hope I helped you.

I remain at your disposal for further clarifications.

Best regards.
