What Do Confusion And Difficulty In Doing Routine Activities While On Stresnil Suggest?
Question: My dad was undergoing treatment for alcoholism. He remained sober..and do no drink. After 9-10 months he thought of stopping medication because he continuously felt weakness, drowsiness and confusion. He didn't wanted any more medicine..so I advised him to gradually decrease and then stop medication..nothing more happened but he felt same things still. Then he again thought of medication.
After explaining the current situation to doctor, he was again prescribed
1. Stablon 12.5mg
2. Baclofen 10 mg
3. Accomprosate 333 mg
Three times a day.
And amizep 12.5 mg once in morning and 2 tablet in night
Stressnil 0.5 mg in night
Rejunex in night.
Now his situation is worse. He is not able to do daily activities.
Goes school on Sunday.
Left the house door open. And was sleeping in open outside room in sunlight today at 10.30 am
Don't react to what we say.
Eat food when we tell him to eat.
Looks confused.
One day he was sitting in washroom for around an hour.
He do things only when we tell him to do. And it is about all the daily activities.
Don't say anything real when we ask what he is feeling.he just don't want to talk or don't have any answer.
Recently we were at some place. Other family members were returning but we didn't find my father after some time. When we get back to the place ,he was sitting there like he came alone or didn't knew that other members returned.
Looks like he is living in a different world unattached from his surroundings.
What all this, please help

You mean these symptoms are most probably because of stressnil . if it is the case, when he will be able to see change after discontinuing stressnil.
If he has withdrawl symptoms then what will be those symptoms after discontinuing stresnil 0.5mg dose.
And how long these will take to go away.

I do not mean that they are exclusively due to stressnil but it is the most likely culprit. It will be not wrong to say that it is due to combination of various drugs. There are four medicine in his prescription which bring about sleep and poor cognition and stressnil contains two of them.
The second likely culprit is Amizep but we are not supposed to remove two medicine on single attempt.
With current prescription the chances of withdrawal symptoms are very low and even if they occur there will be mild symptoms which can diminish within two-three days on most occasions.
