Question: I recently started Bumex and K+. Today I used the toilet and the stool had bloody chunks in it. I have had diarrhea since I started taking this med. Is this a common side effect with Bumex? I also have a bowel movement every time I urinate.

Brief Answer:
Can be infection or hemorrhoids.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

No, blood in stools is not a side effect of bumetinide. Very likely you are suffering from amebic dysentery as urination causes bowel moment also however it can be due to hemorrhoids also. The way to know this is having a stool occult blood test or a stool microscopy test done that will confirm the presence of blood with the stools.

Have you ever had a colonoscopy done? After the age of 50, it is recommended that all people should have a colonoscopy every 5-10 years. Even if you have had this test in the last 5 years it might be recommended to repeat it as you are having this bleeding if the stool tests confirm you are really bleeding.

A CBC would be a good test to be done if you suspect bleeding to see if you are developing anemia as a complication of bleeding and need treatment for it or not. A stool test would suggest if its due to infection.
