Question: I am 35 years old. My father had PKD and i am getting checked my Kidney functoning every year.

Till now for the last 7 years all the reports are normal (usg and blood).

But in the usg scan report kidney size varies every time:

in 2011: 94 mm, 101 mm

in 2015: 103 mm, 101 mm

in 2016: 95mm, 97 mm,

in 2017: 103mm, 106mm,

in 2018: 105mm, 101mm.

These tests are done at different labs.

What could be the reason for change in sizes? do i need to go for CT scan?

Brief Answer:
Report

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Can you tell me what is the detailed report? Are there any cysts?
What about your lab tests iike Hb, TLC, DLC, ESR, blood urea, serum creatinine, serum uric acid and urine complete?

If all these are in normal range then do not worry.

Yes these size variations may be due to scans by different doctors.

Do you have any symptom?

I shall await your response.

Hi Sir,
Creatinine and urine reports are normal.
No cysts. No where in the any of the reports mentioned about cysts and radioligists and doctors who looked into the scan reports said normal.
I just wanted to check why sizes are different in different reports.
i am no bp medicine. bp is the only symptom for now. But not sure if that is becz of kidney problem. scan reports are normal always.
USG scan is enough to verify cysts or do i need to go for CT scan?

Brief Answer:
Relax

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

If all the tests are normal then ignore it. At present, there is no need to go for a CT of the abdomen. Just keep the ultrasound reports and lab tests as record. Get the scan done from the same doctor every time.

It gives the ease of comparison. Have good control over your blood pressure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi sir,
Can you please confirm that USG scan is enough to detect cysts on kidney if there are any? Or is there a chance that cysts are not visible in USG scan. I have done three scans in last two years one in the last week and none of the report mentioned cysts.
So USG is enough?
My BP is under control AVG in a day is not more than 124/87. But still feeling dizineess and contingent sensation sometimes in the day or night. What could be the reason? Also feeling like tight headed XXXXXXX sometimes. Please clarify

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Yes. For a 30 years plus person, an ultrasound of the abdomen is 100 percent effective in detecting kidney cysts. As you are 35 years old, you would get diagnosed by an ultrasound. You do not need a CT or an MRI.

Just keep following up at the same diagnostic center and scanned by the same doctor.

Also undergo lab tests from the same center every time. Secondly, tightness or headache may be due to some other problem such as cervical strain, it is better to consult a local doctor.

It is not related to kidney disease.

Hope I have answered your query.
