Question: should I be concerned about my worsening leg cramps and muscle spasms? I'm taking xarelto 20mg once a day after discovering 2 confirmed blood clots behind my right knee in Nov 2015. I read that muscle pain and spasm is a side effect of xarelto but when ould I be concerned enough to get checked out?? the affected leg is slightly swollen but has been since the clots were discovered and it is not warm at all to the touch.

if it helps I also take 500mg metformin 2x a day for insulin resistant pcos NOT for diabetes as well as flovent and salbutamol for asthma

thanks for your help

Brief Answer:
Side effect of Xarelto.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
As you mentioned, muscle cramps is a recognised side effect of Xarelto and is not a cause of concern.
There is no adverse interaction between the other medicines you are taking.
The slight and long standing swelling is due to incompetence of the venous valves of the affected leg.
It is less likely that you have a fresh clot but if you are very concerned, blood test for D dimers would be helpful in excluding a fresh clot.
