Posted on Tue, 30 Dec 2014
Question: My Father has stage 4 bladder cancer as well as stage 4 squamous cell cancer of the larynx. He has been sleeping 16 or more hours a day. he is on hospice. Today he began vomiting black liquid. He vomited 4 or 5 times. He is also having a lot of blood clots passing in his urine. No bowel movement for 4 days but eating very little. The hospice says he is "in decline" but how long can he go on like this? I don't want to lose him but he is suffering so much.

Brief Answer:
Unfortunately your father is heading towards end stage complications .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your father is a victim of advanced cancer of the bladder and cancer of larynx.

The vomiting of a black liquid suggests internal hemorrhage and is known complications of malignancy .

The clots that he is passing in urine are due to Cancer of the bladder.

Any aggressive treatment at this stage is not going to help as far as improvement in his primary diseases are concerned.

In a given situation you have to be mentally prepared to accept the fact that he is in a terminal stage of these diseases .

I do understand your sentiments but one has to accept the reality and be ready to face the situation boldly.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
