What Causes Vomiting And Diarrhea When Having A History Of Ectopic Heartbeats?

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Jan 2015
Question: I have a history of ectopic heart beats pvcs and pacs. yesterday around 1 a.m. I started throwing up and assume I have the stomach virus. I also had diarrhea. I began to be able to take oral fluids again around noon abd have had almost 60 ounces of Gatorade, the sugar free kind. I know dehydration and electrolyte imbalances can occur with gastrointestinal viruses. I have had alot of ectopic beats since getting sick. is this ok? I am worried my electrolytes could be off but am drinking alot of Gatorade. I dont wabt to go to er if I dont have to. what would you recommend? I wish I could just go to er and ask for ekg and blood work but it doesn't work that way. it takes hours usually to get seen and get results.

Brief Answer:
consult to your physician as soon as possible .

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX
Hope you are doing well.
I can understand your concern .
As you have mentioned you are diagnosed with frequent premature ventricular contractions that you experience of and on.
I would like to know whether you are taking any treatment for this or not.

I think you are aware about the fact that electrolytes abnormalities mainly potassium deficiency or excess can cause abnormal rhythm . Diarrhoea is one of conditions in which patient can develop hypokalemia that is decreased potassium level . So this need to monitored.and corrected as soon as possible .
I would like to suggest you that if you are feeling frequent pvcs then this is an indication to visit your physician and get your ecg done and if some correctable cause is found then that should be treated promptly .
So in my opinion you should manage your diarrhoea with oral re hydration salt solutions that is prepared by water , sugar and salt in a definite proportion along with this take soft diet and curd etc.
But the main concern is of pvcs that we should be diagnosed and managed as soon as possible .
So please consult your physician for the same .
hope this will help.
If you have any other concerns please feel free to contact .

Brief Answer:
Continue with your medicine, consult cardiologist.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX
Happy to know that you are taking your medicine and you visit your cardiologist regularly .
Now if you feel that you are getting frequent palpitations in spite of your labetalol intake then it's time to consult your cardiologist.
As we have discussed hypokalemia is very important cause of abnormal rhythms
If you have multiple episodes of diarrhea, hypokalemia is always a possibility.
So in my opinion drink plenty of fluid rich in electrolytes eat soft food and fruits.
If you are feeling comfortable then it's okay but if have any discomfort please consults your cardiologist as soon as possibility.
Hope this will help you dear.
If you have any other concerns please feel free to message me .
