What Causes Visible Veins On Abdomen And Lower Back?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Jan 2015
Question: I have recently read about vascular eds and am now concerned about my daughter and I. I am 33 and she is eight. We both are thin and fair-skinned. We have some veins that can be seen on various parts of our abdomen and lower back.

I had was born with hip dyslpasia but it was easily corrected and I've had no problems since. Neither of us bruise easily and are otherwise healthy.

The concern I have is the veins. How do I know if the visible veins are worrisome?

Brief Answer:
Depends on vein size

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to Healthcare magic.

It depends on vein size. If the veins are just visible underneath skin and present from long time or may be from birth and straight means you don't have to worry. Since you both are thin and fair it is common to have visible veins. Since you both have it appears it's normal for your body and not a disease.

If the veins bulge over the level of skin or they are tortuous then they are dilated. In such situation you need to get Doppler study of it and take treatment like calcium dobusalate tablets to improve tone of veins. After Doppler the grade will be known.

Hope I have answered your query . If any further queries are there I would love to help.
