What Causes Vaginal Bleeding During Sexual Intercourse?

default
Posted on Sat, 7 Jun 2014
Question: I am trying to determine the cause of recent vaginal bleeding during sexual intercourse. I have never had this experience previously and assumed it was the start of a monthly menstrual period, but there was not bleeding before or after either time. There was some mild spotting three days after intercourse, but no regular menstrual flow. I am not on birth control and my husband had a vasectomy. I am not in any pain during intercourse, but the significant bleeding happened after both recent relations, and intercourse was one day apart.

Needs investigations.

Hello,

There are many causes of slight bleeding after sexual intercourse and the commonest are:-
- Cervical dysplasia.
- Vaginitis.
- Cervicitis.
- Cervical polyp.
- Endometritis.
You will need to get examined by a Gynaecologist to find the cause.
She will do your internal examination.
She may also advise you investigations like
- Pap smear.
- Ultrasound scan of abdomen and pelvis.
Please consult your Gynaecologist for further evaluation and management.
