What Causes Tightness Sensation In The Shoulders And Abdominal Pain?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 May 2017
Question: Hi there,

My left arm feels like it is seizing up, namely:
Feeling of fullness in the bicep
tightening at shoulder and shoulder blade
wirst feels sore
pulling sensation in palm to close fingers (fingers aren't fully closing)
Hand trembles

I have had this for about a week now, but it is getting quite uncomfortable that I can't get to sleep.

I also notice it feels like the sensation is going down the left side of my abdomen.

I am more inclined to believe its pyschosomatic, but I just want to check it doesn't sound like something bad

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Can be postural problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Most probable reason for your symptoms could be postural problem of wrist and hand as you may be working on laptop for long time.

Medications like methylcobalamin and analgesics will reduce pain. If pain is severe a neurotropic like pregabalin can be added, you can take them after consulting your treating doctor.

Some exercises which can be done after pain has reduced include- wrist rotation, elbow movement, shoulder rotation, neck rotation, and fist open and close.
You may consult physiotherapist for further guidance. He may start TENS, or ultrasound which is helpful in your case.

Some life style modifications to prevent pain– Take break every 40 min from computer and do some neck rotations, stretches, walk and get back to work. Sit with taking support to your back and neck, and do not watch television constantly.
I will advise you to check your vit B12 and vit D3 levels also.

You may need to follow office ergonomics so that you remain pain free.
I will advise you to connect key board and mouse to laptop so that working becomes easier. Using a wrist support mouse pad will also help.

I hope this answers your query.
