Question: Dear Doctor

Yesterday on the eve of new year I went to restaurant to eat pizza and pasta. I think I didn't chew
it properly and started feeling something stuck in my food pipe around my chest area.
By morning 3 am today , I felt a strong pain in the entire food pipe . I felt that pain as I swallowed anything around chest area.
I feel some part of the pipe might be bruised or swollen and I'm unable to eat food painlessly .
Please help what to do

Brief Answer:
Antacid and proton pump inhibitor....

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It is difficult to predict what might be wrong. But it seems more likely to be food pipe inflammation secondary to hyperacidity. I would start you on antacid along with proton pump inhibitor:
- Syp sucralfate 5ml three times a day
- Tab Nexpro 20mg before food twice a day

If symptoms don't improve and the discomfort persists for more than a day or two, please get examined at a doctor's office/clinic.

In the meanwhile, avoid too hot and spicy food. Prefer soft, less spicy and semisolid food. Drink plenty of water.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Happy New Year!!!
