Question: My 16 year old daughter has a history of Osgoode Shlatter's disease, recently had an MRI, because of pain and swelling in the knees which showed arthritis had developed. As we've waited for consult with rheumatologist, she can not walk without crutches and much pain, her one leg has swollen quite severley, and tonight after a shower her foot and bottom part of her calf turned purplish. What could this be?
Brief Answer:
Can be due to inflammation.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have seen the images attached. The swelling in her feet is likely to be due to inflammation or an infection in the area. Since the skin color changes are extending upto the foot the possibility of cellulitis is present.
This needs a direct examination by a rheumatologist and after ruling out infection and any bleeding disorders systemic steroids will help in controlling the swelling and pain. Keep her feet elevated on two pillows while resting and avoid weight bearing on the feet till then.
I hope this answers your query.

Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
If there is no acute pain fever or a sudden increase in the swelling then there is no need to worry. You can wait for your appointment with a rheumatologist.

Brief Answer:
Do consult your physician as soon as possible.
Detailed Answer:
If she is having all these symptoms then she needs a medical attention. It is best to consult your physician as soon as possible to rule out infection- cellulitis or bleeding disorder. She needs an early management.
