What Causes Sudden Onset Of Redness And Pain In Right Eyelid?

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Aug 2015
Question: I have a sudden onset of redness and pain inside my right eyelid, along with the outside half of my eye becoming bloodshot. It is quite painful, and feels like there is sand in my eye. It has come on within the past 24 hours. There is also some discharge and excessive tearing. It feels as if my eyelid is "thicker", and my tears are stickier than usual.
Now, it looks as if a blood vessel has swollen, swelling my iris in a ridge like line to the corner of my eye...I should be seen?

Brief Answer:
conjucntivitis

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You noticed today a sudden redness swelling and pain to the right eye with minimal discharge. This could be simply conjunctivitis or pink eye or it could be a viral infection or a scratch to the cornea. There is no way to tell just by looking. I recommend that you be seen by your doctor to find out what is going on with your eye.

You may need antibiotic drops and pain medication to help the pain
