What Causes Stomach Upset While On Sotalol?
Question: Been taking sotalol in maintenance dose since 2012 due to an Afib/fast heart rate event then. was started on a high dose for a couple of days Been on 80 mg since then. Now taking 40 mg Last year cardio testing all came back normal (you interpreted my numbers as such) I haven't noticed any Afib over this long period.
I'm questioning the need to continue at all I've felt known side effects such as nightmares jittery stomach upset which I feel is a result of being on this. Also feel anxiety recently which is disturbing. it's affecting my day.
Would changing med to a metopropanol bisoprolol, dronedatone , or others , be more tolerable? Or stop? What do you suggest?

At first we should make sure that your complaints are a side effect of your medication and not a primary gastric disease. You should know that almost every medication can have such side effects.
For ruling out primary gastric disease you would need a gastroscopy and Helicobacter Pylori test. If these tests come back normal, there may be a need for an additional contrast X Rays of the esophagus.
If all tests come back normal then we can consider the possibility of a side effect.
About changing the medication: it very individual how a patient will tolerate a specific medication. But usually metoprolol and bisoprolol are well tolerated, and side effects are very rare.
