What Causes Stomach Cramps Along With Loose Stools?
Question: Hello Doctor,
I have been experiencing stomach cramping and loose stools for the past month now. In the morning my stool is soft and sticky. Then in the afternoon it converts into watery stool like diahrrea. I have gone two times to the bathroom in the last 15 minutes. I am getting an endoscopy done soon to see if I have a digestive problem. What can this be? Can it be cancer? Please advise. Thanks.

Hi,
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.
1. Your symptoms are not indicative for cancer issues.
2. One possible explanation is infectious bowel disease. Culture of stool for pathological bacteria/candida and examination of stool for ova/parasites are advised.
3. Cholecyst issues (e.g. sludge, inflammation) are to rule out by abdominal ultrasound.
4. Inflammatory bowel disease can be determined by colonoscopy.
5. If everything is ok and no organic issue will be determined, then, :
- IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)
- and/or food intolerance
are to rule out at the end.
Meanwhile, I advise to:
- be careful with foods you consume: no oily/spicy/chilly, etc.
- take probiotics to normalize intestinal flora
- increase water intake with ORS to replace the lost fluids
- take tasectan/pepto bismols in case of loose stool/diarrhea.
