default
Posted on Tue, 13 Dec 2016
Question: I have sores inside my nostrils that won't heal. They get better, they get worse, they go from one side to the other. They got better during the summer, but still tender. Right now they are both raw.

Brief Answer:
Consult an ENT specialist.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the query under health care magic platform. I have read it & understood your concern.
Long standing problem of nasal sores with intermittent exacerbation could be due to-
- A habit of poking nose to remove dried scab. This gives assess to bacteria harboring nasal cavity normally- to infect .. causing inflammation & trouble . It subsides over the time & recurs again after poking.
- Allergy - can lead to recurrent cold/ sinus infection causing nasal secretions forming scabs .. infection & inflammation. This cycle goes on till allergen is removed / one gets resistant to allergy.
- Infection with virus Herpes simplex can cause it & needs oral antivirus drugs prescribed by a doctor after physical examination & confirmation of cause.
- Conditions making the nasal mucus membrane dry ( diabetes, sojourn's syndrome-also associated with dry mouth , dry eyes.) can lead to repeated sores.
- Malignancy also presents with such symptom - so needs to be excluded... though presence of pain almost rules it out.
* So, apart from the self care you are undertaking , applying specific cremes, oral medications with an expert advise would help you to get rid of the problem.
* I would advise to consult an ENT specialist / get the needful investigations done to pin point the cause , This will enable the specific treatment.
I hope the answer was both informative & useful Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
