What Causes Sore Shoulders After Exercising?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 May 2014
Question: In case of any exercise which involves my shoulders, which could be an overhead activity, bench press or core shoulder exercise, my entire shoulder becomes very sore and hurts in the entire region. Is sore to touch too. Have consulted a couple of people and have been told that have tendinitis. When I don't exert them they get back to normal. However cannot get into any weight training routines. Even push ups are not possible. Was into moderate weight training for years on and got off it because of my shoulders

Brief Answer:
It can be subacromial bursitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
I have read your case history and it appears to me that you are having subacromial bursitis. It is inflammation of the shoulder joint. This is commonly seen in young people involved in throwing sports and gym activities.
To confirm the diagnosis I would like to suggest you MRI scan of the shoulder joint. This will give us idea if it is only bursitis or there is partial rotator cuff tear is also present.
After MRI report I will be able to tell you whether you will need physiotherapy or a surgical procedure.
Send me your MRI report as early as possible. I will try my best to help you. Till then avoid doing push up and weight lifting exercises.
thanks and take care.

Thank you for your quick response.

Are there any open MRI Machines available, which you would know of. As I'm Claustrophobic and cannot get it done in the closed machines.

Brief Answer:
You can get ultrasound of the shoulder

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
MRI is best investigation for your problem, if you are having claustrophobia, you can get it done under sedation.I am not aware about open MRI at your place. In our center in jaipur, we have open MRI. If you can come here , I can get it done for you.
If you can not manage to get MRI then get a ultrasound of the shoulder. This test can also give us good information.
I hope this answer will help you. Let me know if you want to ask any other questions.
Thanks and take care.
