What Causes Small Lumps Under Skin On Different Parts Of Body?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Feb 2015
Question: Hello i had a 4cm lipoma removed from my upper right thigh three weeks ago. I have about five other bumps on my body which are all smaller and seem to be superficial under skin. They feel like firm rubber and are small like i said. I have two on my other thigh one upper and one mid both of which seem to be about 1cm. I think i have these bumps for a while, several months at least so i never told my dermatolgist about them because they dont bother me. I read about liposarcomas and am now scared it may be that. My question i guess is since i already had one confirmed lipoma are the rest that as well. Or can you have satcomas and lipomas both at the same time? I am also a type 1 diabetic for the last 17 years if that helps. Last a1c was 7.9. Not good i know!

Brief Answer:
Most probably lipomas ....

Detailed Answer:
Hi young man ...
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history...
I have read the whole history and understood your problem of caner-phobia.

Coming directly to the queries you have:
It will be not ardent to say that whether the remaining tumors are lipomas or liposarcoma or something else as these all are histo-pathological diagnosis.
Since you have the remaining 5 bumps and the one removed was diagnosed as lipoma, there are more chances that the remaining are lipoma.
They are noticed by you for the last several months and are no causing any symptoms to you. I hope there is no history of sudden enlargement, change in shape and size, if it is so, just relax at the moment as they are most probably be lipomas...

Presence of liposarcoma and lipoma in the same patient at the same time is almost not heard / read about ...

Since you are diabetic, your priority should be control of the diabetes which is very important.
Too much tensions, worries, anxiety can certainly increase the blood sugar levels.

I would advise you the following options:
FNAC of all the bumps you have.
if the suspicion is still present or you have a doubt in mind, the best confirmatory way is to get all the bumps removed and subject to Histo-pathological examination.
This will help in a few ways:
-You get all the bumps, which are not a part of the normal body
and
-You get a confirmed diagnosis as to whether these are lipoma / liposarcome or what ...
and
-If diagnosed as lipomas, your worry goes away.

I was wondering why all the bumps were not removed when the the one with 4 cm size was removed.

I hope this helps you to get an appropriate view as to what these bumps are
and get free of all the phobia.
Please feel free to ask for further if you need to or if you feel there is a gap of communication.
Just relax at the moment

Thank you! I told the doctor i had other lumps but i was concerned with the bigger one. He took it out the next day. I play alot of sports and thought my other lumps were just bruises that didnt go away. How rare is a sarcoma as small as i have and in multiple places? I will call my doc and have hime take the rest out. Can he do imaging to diagnose so i dont have scars everywhere? My bumps are rubber firm and dont move alot but a little i think. They kind of feel like my last lipoma did. I am kicking myself for not getting them all taking care of when i took the other one out. Im scared and nervous but reading your response helps a bit.

Brief Answer:
Very rare, no heard of.

Detailed Answer:
Most welcome !

How rare :
Sarcomas are quite rare with only 15,000 new cases per year in the United States. Sarcomas therefore represent about "one percent of the 1.5 million new cancer" diagnoses in that country each year. I hope this clears that this is very rare tumor.
And having sarcoma as small as you have and in multiple cases is very very rare, almost non-existent as almost all cases are diagnosed when these are fairly large.

Imaging will not help much and the doubts will still remain, hence the best way is wide local excision of all the bumps; the scars will be small as the bumps are also small.

Not just to soothe you, but to tell you the facts, such small sarcomas are almost not heard of and anyways you will be getting all these out and getting the 100 % diagnosis. So why to be scared now - at the moment. Just relax till you get the histo-patho reports.
By considering the size, consistency, movement at the moment has stress-booster character, hence best way is to stop thinking and most importantly stop searching on the internet.

Take care of yourself and the diabetes, which is more important.

So i went to my GP again for answers. This is where i had my lipoma taken out with the dermo that is there. She said that my first path report showed 100% fat in my my last lipoma. I told her i am having anxiety about my other lumps and she did a complete run throgh of all my bumps. She said all fatty deposits and no Cancer by just felling the growths. She also said since i have multiple lesions and that my first lipoma was 100% fat that makes these the same. Can clinical physicians be this accurate on just exam? She seemed pretty confident but said that the dermo only removes one at a time if i want to go that route. My decision but nothing to worry about. I need to start having faith in doctors and their expertise.

Brief Answer:
Your decision please !

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your feedback and decision to have faith in a Doctor who palpated and have a reasonable reasons to say the rest are lipomas.

If you are still anxious about these, get them removed one by one.
Anyways, they are going to grow over time and keep you anxious, why not to remove when they are small giving small scars on the skin but at the same time XXXXXXX to your mind.

Please feel to free to discuss more if you need to.

Thank you! The one bump I worry about is the one on mid thigh. Its 1cm and i thought mid thigh was a bad spot for liposarcomas. Cant even see the bump unless felt firm like eraser and small. Not liposarcoma symptoms than? Last ost i promise. I am getting this one taken out on Tuesday eventhough its quite small.

Hopefully NOT a liposarcoma

Detailed Answer:
Hopefully not a liposarcoma.
I would request you to get all the lumps removed one by one so that the cancer-phobia is treated too.

I would be happy to get the biopsy report.

Please feel free to discuss further if you need to.
