What Causes Slight Tear On My Natal Cleft Above My Anus?

Posted on Wed, 16 Apr 2014
Question: I have a slight tear on my natal cleft above my anus. I had a pilidonal cyst 4 months ago after injury to my tailbone. I have had no symptoms of the cyst since however I get this tear every so often. What might be the reason. I am using neosporin and Desitin to treat is this right?

Brief Answer: its looking like sinus to me Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for writing to HCM. Repeated episodes of tear are more suggestive of pilonidal sinus following rupture or excision of the cyst. Show it to a surgeon for a physical examination, and if that indeed comes as a sinus, then it will need excision of the entire sinus tract for permanent cure. Till then keep the area clean and dry and hairless and continue your dressings. Hope i have been helpful. Dr. Ashish Verma

Thank you but I'm still unsure about the sinus. I have had only two tears once right after the cyst and that was due to dry skin which my doctor prescribed ketoconzale and now again which I think I irritated cause I rub on the area and exercise a lot. I don't have insurance so surgery will not be an choice. Could it just be the fungus

Brief Answer: then maintain good hygiene and it may heal Detailed Answer: Hi, Its extremely difficult to exclude sinus through pictures. Since it is appearing clean and uninfected, you can maintain good hygiene by keeping it clean and dry. You can apply even moisturizer there to prevent dryness of the skin. Continue with neosporin powder and if possible take Sitz's bath, i.e., sitting in a small tub with XXXXXXX warm water and 5ml of any antiseptic solution added to it, for 15 mins, 2-3 times a day for a week. This will increase blood circulation there and promote healing. I would insist that you visit a surgeon for physical examination if it doesn't improve with time, say 2 weeks. I'll be available to help you with additional concerns (if any) during the healing process. So don't be worried. Regards Dr. Ashish Verma
