What Causes Skipped Heart Beats?

Posted on Tue, 24 Jan 2017
Question: Hello.
I have a question that may seem strange. But this is actuall, I have had people test it with me.

When I take my pulse I can clearly feel there is a small delay, or a pause in the pulse if I: change posture, turn steeringwheel in car, also sometimes if I just turn my head a bit sudden. Try to explain it like this, with the - beein heartbeat.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --. See where theres a longer distance between means the pauses I get , and they ARE caused by me movng body, or even when I take deep breath.
Bombom bombom bombom bombom bombom bombom bombom bombom bombom.

What can be the problem here, or is this normal?
And please dont say it is not possible to provoce such things, because I feel it, and my girlfriend has checked for me and agrees.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that these heart rate changes are quite normal and occur in every normal individual.

They are related to the physiological change in venous pressure during the two phases of respiration or body position changes.

So there is nothing to worry about!

Hope to have been helpful!

Feel free to ask me again whenever you need!

Thank you very much.
I point out, the heart rate doesnt change. Its not like it goes from 60 bom to 80 bpm
It pauses just at the moment i change posture, use my hands /arms, and Even While sitting it happens when turning head. And after pause it goes right back into same rythm
60 bpm pause 60 bpm

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

Thank you for the additional information, but that is exactly what I was trying to explain.

The increased venous pressure during inspiration or body movements leads to a prolonged pause in the heart rhythm, because the load of blood to the heart is increased.

That is why you have this feeling.

In fact, this happens in every normal person, but just sensitive persons are aware of these changes.

Anyway, there is no need to perform any additional tests, as this "symptoms" does not indicate any medical disorder.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Wishing all the best,

Thank you. Very good answer.
I have a other problem AS well. It May sound like asthma but I learned that asthma is more of a problem with exhaling. I get a wheezing sound and trouble breathing IN. Especially what straining and beeing active. I of course think this might be a cardiac related thing, but read online that it May be some form of silent reflux problem. My doc has Said i May have silent reflux because i have complaining about a strangling sensation around the XXXXXXX Apple. But that is not really when i get the breathing trouble. The breathing problem is after physical activity and feels like harder to breath in than out. Also a bit tight over the chest. No pain
Earlier checked with 24 hrs ecg , echo and stresstest. Not because of breath but other arrythmia ectopics etc. Can this be cardiomyopathy or heart failure Signs

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

As a cardiologist, I would like to reassure you that your symptoms are not indicative of any cardiac disorders (including cardiomyopathy or heart failure).

From the other hand, all your performed cardiac tests are another strong argument to exclude any cardiac disorders.

Silent reflux could cause similar problems.

Bronchospasm could be also the cause of your symptoms. That is why I would recommend performing respiratory function tests to exclude this possibility.

I would also recommend trying an antiacid before physical exertion. If it helps, it would be a strong argument if favor of reflux underlying your troubles.

Anyway, the situation is not really concerning. All the above mentioned causes are not serious medical disorders.

So, relax and don't worry about it!

Hope to have clarified some of your uncertainties!

Wishing good health,
