Question: Hi I went to the Dr Thursday thinking that I had another sinus infection and they gave me a zpack. But, I feel worse. It's like my it is hard for me to breath and the bottom of my esophagus feels like it is swollen. When I went to the Dr the other day my throat was burning when I would swallow. Do you think that maybe it is something that I need to go back to the Dr for

Brief Answer:
it depends

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

let me ask a few questions to help me have a more clear view on your problems. You've mentioned breathing difficulty. Do you feel like you can't get enough oxygen? Is your nose the problem (congested)? Or you feel the same way even when breathing through the mouth? Do you have fever?

If you do have shortness of breath then visiting your doctor is recommended to check for complications (like pneumonia for example). If there's no fever then it's probably a mild infection which will get better over the next few days. Azithromycin is a good choice for most upper respiratory tract infections.

Swallowing difficulty could be due to irritated tonsils and pharyngeal area or due to swelling (due to any reason, including allergy). What would be concerning here, would be uneven tonsils (like if one is protruding to the pharynx significantly more than the other) or sings of allergy like wheezing, swollen lips, etc. In such cases, immediate visit to your doctor or the ER is recommended.

Kind Regards!

I feel like a tightness in my chest. I feel shortness of breath whether it is nose or mouth. And I am not having a fever. Just been having headaches. I have been on the Zpak since Thursday and my breathing has gotten worse today. I was breathing fine the other day. My throat is not burning when I swallow like the other day. It feels like it went from the top of my esophagus to the bottom

And this is the third sinus infection since the end of XXXXXXX

shortness of breath requires urgent assessment

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the additional info!

Shortness of breath is a symptom that requires urgent assessment and investigation. Sinusitis is not supposed to cause it.
