What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Nose Pressure After A Septoplasty?

default
Posted on Tue, 26 Jul 2016
Question: Hello,
I had a Septoplasty , Tubino plasty on 7th May 2016. It has been 8 weeks since then. My breathing is good now. When I check closing either of the nostril I am properly able to breathe through both nostrils. However sometimes I feel short of breath as if my nose is choked. I definately feel some heaviness inside my nose which also makes my head a bit heavy sometimes. Is this normal. I keep thinking about it all the time.

Brief answer....everything seems normal except that you are little more anxious and conscious about it
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Since you get these symptoms of heaviness and blockage occasionally only,it seems to be normal. It could be there because of short term blockage due to weather changes or may be some extra nasal secretions.
Since you are thinking about it quite a lot, these symptoms appear aggravated to you.
I think just relax and stop worrying about it.
Do prananayama and breathing exercises as they would help you the maximum.
In case your symptoms are recurrent and start bothering you lot, then you would need an examination by your ENT doctor, although chances for such thing appears less.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks

Thanks for the reply Dr. It does help a lot. I will surely start the breathing exercises.
I felt worried because
1. Before the surgery I do not remember my nostril getting choked. So is this is normal recovery phase of the surgery to have the nostril blocked sometimes
2. Is the nose heaviness because of numbness or dryness. How long after the surgery is it expected to be normal

Hello,
Complete recovery takes around 8-10 weeks.
Heaviness could be because of numbness arising out of surgery.
I don't think there is any reason to get worried.
Just wait and watch as things would improve gradually.
Thanks
