What Causes Shortness Of Breath Along With Chest Pain And Dizziness At Night?
Question: Hi there - I woke up in the middle of the night sitting up and hyperventilating. I had mild chest pain, irritability, dizziness and an awful headache. (may not be relevant: I have a history of head pain with idiopathic intracranial hypertension. I am recently in "remission" for lack of a better word, and have been taken off of Diamox less than month ago.) I called the doctor office first thing, they did an EKG, x ray, and pulled several labs including a pregnancy test, cbc, and kidney function, they say everything came back normal. I am wearing a heart monitor for 48 hours as a precaution. Do you have any idea what could have cause the attack? The headache never really went away, but dulled a lot after I took excedrin this morning. I am still tired and slightly dizzy.
Also - sorry forgot to add - TSH and T4 were checked last week and were within normal range.

most likely you have experienced a panic attack since all the tests came out negative. These can occur for "no reason", however, there is often some stress behind it which doesn't always seem obvious in first place. For now wait and see is ok. If that should come back and all the tests for heart and other conditions keep turning out negative, cognitive behavioral therapy can be of great help.
