What Causes Severe Pain Under Ribcage After Gallbladder Removal?

default
Posted on Sat, 8 Nov 2014
Question: When I had my gallbladder removed a cyst on my right kidney (so they assumed) began to leak causing severe pain in my back under my right rib cage. The pain lasted about a month, eventually going away. Now it is back and pretty severe again. Could this be the same cyst? Just FYI, I have been under a lot of stress from moving, and doing a lot of lifting of boxes. My TMJ pain has also increased quite a bit. I have very bad pain in face, neck and back also. But the pain in my side is a shooting pain, like I'm being punched.

Brief Answer:
Leak from kidney cyst is rare.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Cysts in the kidney are incidental findings in Ultrasound or CT Scan abdomen. Most of the times, they are asymptomatic. It is very rare for the cyst to get ruptured spontaneously. Just by lifting weights, it won't rupture. I have not seen a single patient with rupture of Kidney cyst.
The cause of the pain could be different.
You should get an Ultrasound abdomen to rule out any disease in the area of pain.
If it is normal, it could be musculo skeletal pain.
I prescribe Skeletal muscle relaxant tablet containing Thiocolchicoside to my patients with similar complaints.
Nothing to worry .
Hope I answered your query.
If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
