What Causes Severe Pain On Right Side Of Abdomen?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: My daughter is having moderate to severe pain on her right side (lower about level with her belly button). She has been diagnosed in the past with convergence disorder where she has anxiety manifest itself in physical pain in her body in the past. She says it is different this time as she has the pain wake her up from sleep and it hurt badly enough she actually vomited a little while ago. Is it possible for pain to appear in this area if she is having issues with her appendix? I only ask as she was running a low-grade fever yesterday.

Brief Answer:
Yes it could be Appendix

Detailed Answer:
HI

Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.

See here the issue is whether this pain is an symptom of her convergence disorder or actually there is some problem in her abdomen.

Vomiting can be seen in both real problems and convergence problem. But fever points more towards actual problem. So my inclination is more towards she having real abdominal problem rather than convergence disorder.

Now coming to your query, yes Appendix infection can cause initially pain in the site mentioned by you but later it is classically seen in the right lower part of the abdomen. So apart from appendicitis she could be having Urine Infection , Uterine cramps or infection.

My advise to you is to get an Ultrasound Abdomen Pelvis scan done and Urine routine test done and revert back . Or take her to the ER.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask .

Regards
