Brief Answer:
Commonest cause can be colitis or stone in ureter

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and specific.
Please give some details for me to assist you better:
Since when have you got the pain?
Any urinary symptoms?
Any bowel related symptoms?
Any other associated symptoms like nausea, vomiting, fever, chills, body ache referred pain to leg or back?
Any medical problems like diabetes or on any medications?

The commonest cause at your age of 75 for pain in left lower abdomen can be related to colitis or stone in the ureter.
Please take anti-spasmodic like Dicyclomin or so.
May need further clinical evaluation and supportive investigations like X-ray, Ultrasonography, tests of blood, urine and stool.

I hope this answer helps you.
Awaiting for your feedback on questions asked.

Take care.
With Regards.

Thank you, yes it does help. The pain was first noticed about 12 hours ago. It is not always the same intensity depending on my movements. Urinary symptoms include frequent need to urinate, causing me to think that it was an infection and frequent pressure and need to move bowels. There are no related symptoms just the stabbing pain. Is there a need to see a doctor.
