What Causes Severe Pain In Ankles?
Question: I am having severe pain in both of my ankles . It hurts to move them. More on the left ankle. I can not find a comfortable position to put my feet without pain. I have trouble walking on them because of the pressure on the ankles. I did not have a recent injury . It has been bothering for a few weeks, but it is now really bad. I was told it is osteoarthritis. I dont think it is. I have swelling in my feet and toes as well. It hurts so bad.

Dear Dr.
1.) I have it about a month or so. I am getting severe pain in both ankles now.
2.) No, I have not had any x rays.
3.) I have had a sed rate and a test for gout. Those tests both came back in the normal range. That is what my pcp told me. When I saw my pcp she really did not look at my ankles or do any kind of range of motion ,etc while i was in her office. She
just increased my cymbalta for my fibromyalgia. I hope this helps . If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
You need to take few medications
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I think it is more of a fatigue pain then arthritis. As ESR is normal and uric acid is also normal. I would suggest you to follow these steps.
1. Avoid prolong standing or using very tight shoes or high heels.
2.Hot water fomentation
3.Brufen 490 mg twice daily.
in case you have stiffness in ankle joint in morning or not relieved after 15 to 20 days after following these steps then you might need to get x ray and MRI of the ankle. I hope this answer will be useful for you. let me know if there is any other followup questions. thanks

Brief Answer:
Brufen is available over the counter
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Yes Brufen is over the counter but you should not take it with Meloxicam as both are same type of medications thus together it can cause side effects. It will be better that you take one of them only.
For hot water fomentation you need to heat water to a gentle warm temperature, fill it in bucket and keep your both ankles immersed for ten minutes twice daily.
Thanks
